Jay’s story focuses on his stolen memories and making the most of the situation, by turning his focus from himself to helping his new friends.
Slavomir’s story focuses on his loss of power. Being abandoned and left for dead by the cult he was a part of, he deals with isolation during the lowest point of his life. Slavomir had been a powerful combatant, but now he can barely take a stroll without taking breaks to catch his breath. His story should be read by those who have a solid grasp of reality and recognize that his actions are not to be emulated.
While he may be aligned with the forces of evil at the moment, his story is not over yet.
Bridgett’s story in Book #3 focuses on her finding her place in the world and finding out what she wants to do with her powers. After the tale of a new Arts caster circulates through the village, Bridgett’s heart is stirred to go protect them from the Hav’oshka.
If you like visual novels, theater, or enjoy the character art, check out the Visual novel adaptation over on Steam! It covers the first half of The Voice from the Well with additional endings and paths to explore. Each ending is a glimpse into what could have been and one ending which has small hints at events in Book #4.
Within the books, there’s realistic fantasy combat with a focus on close-quarters combat. The fighting in the books is for the spectacle of the fight, the combatants' ability, and to show the clashing of ideals.
While the power of the Arts may look like magic at a quick glance, there’s the distinction that is made that the Arts are akin to having superpowers or having a natural gift rather than leaning into the occult.
There are evil cults in the book series, but the focus is not on their practices, but on them being some of the villains of the series.
There are some light cosmic horror aspects in The Velessar Saga, especially in the first two books. Cosmic horror mainly focuses on the fear of the unknown and about creating an atmosphere of mystery.
The best way to convey the feeling of this style of light horror is to imagine yourself snorkeling and looking out into the vast depths of the ocean, wondering what's out in its depths.
Throughout the series, mystery and the unknown play a large part in each book.
In The Voice from the Well, several puzzle pieces are left unsolved. Some explanations around a few of those mysteries are given by untrustworthy characters that reflect what they believe to be true. As the series goes on, more and more of the mysteries set up in Books #1-#3 will be fully revealed.
While there is some romance later in the in the series, there’s no “Adult content”. Enough said.
The series follows the main characters throughout the years and there might be some wholesome romance in Book #4 for some of the characters.
My name is Nathan Whalen! Always enjoyed fantasy and medieval history growing up. The Velessar Saga began late one night in 2018 with nine fledgling pages.
Right now I'm currently working on more books of the Velessar Saga and the second visual novel.
